Ashley Rakahuri School - Minor Amendment

Overview

The Ministry of Education is proposing a minor amendment to the enrolment scheme of Ashley Rakahuri School.

The school has an enrolment scheme which has been in place since 2008. The current Ashley Rakahuri School enrolment scheme home zone is mapped to road boundaries. All new or amended zones are now drawn to land parcel boundaries to more precisely identify the properties that fall within the zone description. This allows more accurate identification of in-zone addresses, particularly when using online search tools.

There has also been some low-density residential development since the enrolment scheme was approved. The addresses in and around Ashley Forest Village appear to be outside the Ashley Rakahuri School zone on the map, but are included in the written description.

This minor amendment will also clarify the inclusion of any residents at Rangiora Leigh Holiday Park which is accessed off Dixons Road in the South-West area of the zone.

Therefore, a minor amendment is required to clarify the home zone boundary of Ashley Rakahuri School – both as written and as drawn.

The proposed commencement date of the minor amendment is 25 July 2022 (Term 3).

The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Comments can be made to Canterbury.EnrolmentSchemes@education.govt.nz by 03 June 2022.

Following the notification period, the Ministry will consider any comments received and the minor amendment will be finalised and approved. 

What happens next

At the end of the notification period, the Ministry of Education will read any comments and process everything to ensure it meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020. If the Ministry is satisfied that the enrolment scheme meets these requirements, the enrolment scheme will be finalised and provided to the Board.
