Consultation on the Proposed Alternative Constitution For Kerikeri High School Board

Closed 13 Nov 2022

Opened 17 Oct 2022

Overview

The Ministry of Education, on behalf of Minister Tinetti, has approval to consult on the proposed alternative constitution for Kerikeri High School Board.

The Board has worked over the past six years to strengthen its relationship with local iwi Ngāti Rēhia. In late 2019 the Board agreed to adopt a permanent seat on the Board for a Ngāti Rēhia representative. The Board believes that its governance capability would be strengthened, and the school’s unique identity and community involvement preserved and enhanced, through changing the constitution. The Board is seeking to move to an alternative constitution to support the Memorandum of Understanding currently established with Ngāti Rēhia and ensure the Board will always have local iwi representation at the table.

The Alternative Constitution (if approved) will consist of:

  • six parent representatives
  • the principal
  • one staff representative
  • one student representative
  • up to one member appointed by Ngāti Rēhia
  • up to three co-opted members

We are seeking your opinion through this survey as part of the consultation process.
