Oromahoe school enrolment scheme

Closed 11 Apr 2022

Opened 10 Mar 2022

Overview

The Ministry of Education regularly monitors enrolment patterns, population growth and anticipated school roll changes across the Tai Tokerau district.  As part of this monitoring and regular review, we now consider an enrolment scheme is necessary for Oromahoe School.  This is due to growth of the school roll and because we need to ensure the Board has a fair and transparent mechanism to manage the roll.  It also means we can ensure we are making best use of educational facilities across the wider area.

If overcrowding occurs or is likely to occur at a State school, the Ministry of Education must establish an enrolment scheme for the school. Click here for the purpose and principles of an enrolment scheme. (Right click to open in a new window)

A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone.

The new enrolment scheme will have a home zone, like other schools with enrolment schemes in the area.  Children that live within this area will have entitlement to enrol at Oromahoe School.

Note that all students who are already enrolled at Oromahoe School before the enrolment scheme commences are entitled to stay at the school. We are also proposing that siblings of current students whose addresses become out of zone, are able to enrol as if they were in zone. See the draft scheme for further details.

Consultation will run until 11 April 2022.  The Ministry will consider all feedback and conuslt with the Oromahoe School Board before making a final decision.  We expect the school community to be updated about progress made in May 2022.  The new scheme and changes will come into effect for 24 October 2022.

Before completing the survey below, please read the proposed description and map of the enrolment scheme in the Factsheet.

Note:This consultation process is about enrolment schemes, which determine the entitlement to enrol.  It’s important to note that a student’s eligibility to enrol may be different to their eligibility for School Transport assistance.  Further information about eligibility to school transport can be found here.
