Broadfield School - Minor Amendment

Closed 1 Sep 2021

Opened 2 Aug 2021

Overview

The Ministry of Education is proposing a minor amendment to the enrolment scheme of Broadfield School.

The school has an enrolment scheme which has been in place since 2015. The enrolment scheme has remained unchanged since that time and the home zone needs updating to better identify which properties are within the zone.

Soon after the zone was approved in 2015, residential development occurred on the outskirts of Prebbleton township, with one large Hamptons Road property being subdivided. This resulted in the Broadfield School zone map appearing to include the new development, while the written description is clear that the development is not included.

Several other, smaller scale changes have happened on boundary roads, and the final shape and location of the Christchurch Southern Motorway is now known (it was in planning stages when the zone was defined in 2015). Other changes are required to improve clarity of the zone map and written description.

Therefore, a minor amendment is required to clarify the zone boundary – both as written and as drawn.

This is deemed to be a minor amendment as there will be no change to any individual’s eligibility to enrol as a result of the amendment.

The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Comments can be made to Canterbury.EnrolmentSchemes@education.govt.nz by 01 September 2021.

Following the notification period, the Ministry will consider any comments received and the minor amendment will be finalised and approved.

What happens next

At the end of the notification period, the Ministry of Education will read any comments and process everything to ensure it meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020. If the Ministry is satisfied that the enrolment scheme meets these requirements, the enrolment scheme will be finalised and provided to the Board.
