Consultation for ākonga, whānau and communities on planning and reporting supports

Closed 6 Apr 2023

Opened 13 Mar 2023

Overview

What is school planning and reporting?
School planning is where school boards decide what improvements to make and how to make them, to provide ākonga (learners) the best school experience to achieve their full potential. Reporting is the way schools keep you informed on their progress towards their goals.

What is changing?
Schools are now required to consult with their communities when doing their planning. This is so everyone, including ākonga (learners), whānau, and the community, can have a say in what the goals of the school are so that they reflect the needs of ākonga (learners).

What is the purpose of this survey?
The purpose of this survey is to understand how we can improve the proposed supports for school planning and reporting.

You can review draft support material for English medium schools below. These have been developed based on what we heard during previous engagements and aim to assist schools with implementing the changes, including supporting engagement with their communities:

For supports for Kaupapa Māori settings and other education providers on our Māori medium directory we will be directly in touch with them.

A summary of responses will be made publicly available, but it won’t have any personal information that can identify you.

If you choose to respond to this survey – you’ll be asked some demographic questions about yourself. This is so we can understand the context of your responses.

Related consultations

We are also consulting on the draft Regulations, you can provide feedback on these here:

Please note that this survey is for ākonga, whānau and families, communities. We have a separate survey to collect information from boards, principals and school staff., you can find this here:

What happens next

After the consultation has closed we will analyse the feedback and provide a summary of feedback on our Improving Schools' Planning and Reporting webpage.

The feedback will be used to further develop the supports that will be launched alongside the new regulations mid-2023.
