Barton Rural School - Minor Amendment

Closed 17 Dec 2021

Opened 15 Nov 2021

Overview

The Ministry of Education is proposing a minor amendment to the enrolment scheme of Barton Rural School.

The school has an enrolment scheme which has been in place since 2007. The current Barton Rural School enrolment scheme home zone is mapped to road boundaries. All new or amended zones are now drawn to Land Parcel boundaries to more precisely identify the properties that fall within the zone description, as this allows more accurate identification of in-zone addresses, particularly when using online search tools.

This minor amendment also proposes to include Pareora Ford Road in the Barton Rural School home zone as it is currently outside the home zones of local schools.

Therefore, a minor amendment is required to clarify the zone boundary of Barton Rural School – both as written and as drawn.

The commencement date of the minor amendment is 31 January 2022.

The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Comments can be made to Canterbury.EnrolmentSchemes@education.govt.nz by 17 December 2021.

Following the notification period, the Ministry will consider any comments received and the minor amendment will be finalised and approved.

What happens next

At the end of the notification period, the Ministry of Education will read any comments and process everything to ensure it meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020. If the Ministry is satisfied that the enrolment scheme meets these requirements, the enrolment scheme will be finalised and provided to the Board.
