Developing an enrolment scheme at Awatapu College, Palmerston North

Closed 12 Jan 2024

Opened 1 Dec 2023

Overview

In collaboration with the Awatapu College Board, Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | The Ministry of Education has developed a proposed enrolment scheme for Awatapu College.

The purpose of an enrolment scheme of a State school is:

  • to avoid overcrowding, or the liklihood of overcrowding, at the school; and
  • to ensure the selection of applicants for enrolment at the school is carried out in a fair and transparent manner; and
  • to enable the Secretary to make the best use of existing networks of State schools.

The proposed scheme would become effective on 1 March 2024. A copy of the proposed scheme is available below.

Why your views matter

As part of this process we are formally consulting with whānau, hāpu, iwi, and with all people living in the area for which the school is a reasonably convenient school. Please note, the enrolment scheme could affect which school a student will be entitled to enrol in.

What happens next

Please provide any comments about the proposed Awatapu College enrolment scheme that you would like to be included in the final report.

Once all submissions have been collated, we will work with the Awatapu College Board to make amendments deemed appropriate to address any concerns.

We will respond to each of the submissions in writing.
