Proposed Amendment to Golden Sands School Enrolment Scheme

Closes 12 May 2024

Opened 12 Apr 2024

Overview

The Ministry of Education is currently working with the Board of Golden Sands School to amend their enrolment scheme.

Note - students already enrolled at a school before a home zone is implemented or changed are entitled to stay at their current school.

We know that changing existing home zones can be challenging for current families who have younger siblings that may be impacted when they start school. Changes to the Education and Training Act in 2020 now allow us to include grandparenting clauses. This means that provided certain criteria are met, younger siblings may also be able to attend the same school as their older brother or sister who are currently enrolled.

The Board of Trustees have indicated that a grandparenting/transitional clause will be included in the amended enrolment scheme.

Enrolment schemes are needed to help manage the risk of overcrowding at schools. Further information about enrolment schemes can be found here

Please have a look at the draft map and overview before you participate in the consultation process. You may also want to read the FAQs about enrolment schemes.

This consultation process is about enrolment schemes, which determines the entitlement to enrol.  It’s important to note that a student’s eligibility to enrol may be different to their eligibility for School Transport assistance.  Further information about eligibility to school transport can be found here.

The Ministry will consider all feedback and consult with the school board before making a final decision. We expect the school community to be updated about progress made towards the end of Term 2. The new schemes and changes are expected to come into effect for Term 3, 2024.
