Overview

Bullying-Free NZ Week runs from the week of 16 - 20 May 2022, ending on Pink Shirt Day! This year the theme is He Kōtuinga mahi iti, he hua pai-ā rau – Small ripples create big waves.

We want to encourage schools and whānau to spread the word about Local Legends whose everyday mahi, both big and small, helps to promote a safe and inclusive environment for ākonga.

Use the form below or the #BullyingFreeNZ on Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok, to nominate your Local Legend.Get involved and share the aroha!

By submitting your Local Legend you will go into the draw to win a set of Bullying-Free NZ masks for your classroom.

What do we need you to do?

  1. Check if the person you are nominating is okay to be nominated.
  2. Read the privacy stuff.
  3. Complete the nomination form below. 

Privacy Stuff

Even if the person you nominate as your Local Legend is pleased that you thought of them, they may be uncomfortable with you sharing any of their information with us. This is why you need to check with them first. 

They also may want to know something about why the information is being collected, who will see it, and how long we will keep it. Answers to these questions are set out below. 

Why do we want this information?

We want to collect information about nominated Local Legends so we can share their stories and promote safe and inclusive environments for ākonga. We will do this by sharing their stories on various social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok, the Education Gazette and the Bullying-Free NZ website.

How will we collect this information?

This information will be collected from the nomination form.

What information will be collected?

The person who nominated the Local Legend will need to state in the nomination form the reason why they nominated them. They don’t have to share any identifying details about the Local Legend.

Similarly, as the person nominating the Local Legend, while we would like you to provide your contact details so we can contact you if necessary, this is entirely up to you. The nomination can be made anonymously.

Security

All information provided will be securely stored by the Ministry of Education in an access-controlled folder.

Publication

If you provide us with your contact details, we will contact you prior to sharing your content to ask for consent from you and your Local Legend. You can opt out at any time.

How long will the Ministry hold onto this information?

All information provided for this campaign will be securely deleted at the end of July 2022.

What happens next

Local Legend stories will be published on our website Home | Bullying Free NZ and the Ministry of Education Instagram @educationgovtnz and Tik Tok accounts during and after the Bullying-Free New Zealand Week 2022.
