Villa Maria College Enrolment Scheme Amendment 2022

Closed 29 Apr 2022

Opened 28 Mar 2022

Overview

The Ministry of Education has been working with Villa Maria College to make some changes to their enrolment scheme.

Please note that this proposal is different to that proposed in 2021.

This is to continue to assist the Board to manage a situation where there is more demand for enrolments than there are places available within the maximum roll, provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment and to ensure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.

This change is due to recently redrawn parish boundaries. This change to the enrolment scheme identifies areas of reasonable convenience for Villa Maria College in the form of Qualifying Parishes (see maps below). Applicants to Villa Maria College who reside in a Qualifying Parish will be prioritised above applicants who do not.

In addition, there is a proposed provision for siblings of students currently enrolled (in 2022) at Villa Maria College and residing in the Waimakariri Parish to be eligible for consideration as residing an a Qualifying Parish due to the change from this parish to Marian College's list of qualifying parishes.

Marian College moving to a new site means a change is required to both enrolment schemes. Marian College made an amendment to their enrolment scheme which commenced in 2022.

The amended enrolment scheme for Villa Maria College is proposed to commence from 01 January, 2023.

Note that all students who are already enrolled at Villa Maria College before the enrolment scheme changes commence are entitled to stay at Villa Maria College.

It’s important that we hear and understand community perspectives before we establish these changes to the enrolment scheme at Villa Maria College – especially the design of the enrolment categories and priorities and the use of date of receipt to prioritise applications.

Please have a look at the proposed information available before you participate in the consultation process.

This consultation process is about enrolment schemes, which determines the entitlement to enrol. Please see FAQs for definitions of pre-enrolment and enrolment.

What happens next

After consultation is finished, the Ministry of Education will collate all feedback and process this information to ensure it meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020. If the Ministry is satisfied that the enrolment schemes meets these requirements, the enrolment scheme will be finalised and provided to the Board. The school’s board must implement the finalised enrolment scheme as soon as practicable.
